PROJECTS

The Tutoring Program
Every day after school, tutors work one-on-one with K-12 students in:
-
Reading & Writing
-
Math & Science
-
Social Studies
-
English & Foreign Language
-
Preparation for SAT, ACT, and Regents Exams
Using our Wi-Fi computer lab, we encourage the development of technology skills.
Tutors collaborate with
The East Hampton School Bilingual Social Worker and The Commission for the Blind
to meet the needs of all our students.
The Tutoring Program offers two long distance trips each year to expose students to world-class museums and cultural interests.

Community Garden
Thanks to Cornell Cooperative Extension & Eat Smart NY,
Whalebone Village started our first community garden in the spring of 2016.
During the growing season we have a weekly garden club where tenants and their children come to work in the garden together or assist in a food demonstration
using our own organically grown vegetables.
Whalebone Garden Club:
-
We learn different ways and techniques of growing food from each other
-
Gardening can reduce stress and help us re-connect to nature
-
Working together builds community
-
Food demonstrations offer education in nutrition and healthy eating practices
Whalebone Village also receives weekly donations of organic vegetables from the Share the Harvest Farm in East Hampton. The farm managers and interns often come to our garden club to help out and share their knowledge and skills of growing food. We coordinate their weekly food donations to occur at the same time as our garden club, so community members can
take home an extra bagful of freshly harvested prime organic produce.
We are grateful for their hard work and commitment to the East End.
